Players return to the politically intriguing near-future world of Tom Clancy fiction in this squad-based shooter. The PlayStation 2 edition of the title was developed by Ubisoft’s Shanghai studio, on a version of the Unreal game engine, and it takes place in a different setting than other editions. Designed to serve as a prequel to the Xbox version, the PS2’s Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon 2 is set in the South Pacific, four years prior to the events of the Xbox game. The unexplained sinking of a Navy warship prompts the deployment of Ghost agents to North Korea, where they take on missions designed to cripple the country’s war efforts. The team may be able to squelch immediate threats, but to get the job done, they’ll need to track down and disempower the secretive figure behind recent activities. Players lead a new team of characters through undercover operations in the “Axis of Evil” nation, each with a distinctive look and personality.
